BBC Radio Task
THE BBC
- The BBC was first formed on October the 18th, 1922 making it 96 years old
- Lord Reith was a Scottish broadcasting executive who established independent public service broadcasting and was hired by the BBC as the general manager.
- Radio 1 was launched on the 30th of September, 1967
- BBC's 5 public purposes: (1) to provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them, (2) to support learning for people of all ages, (3) to show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and services, (4) to reflect, represent and serve the diverse communities of all the UK's nations and regions and support the creative economy across the UK and (5) to reflect the UK, its culture and values to the world.
- Their mission is "to act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain".
- The BBCs vision statement is to become the most creative organisation in the world. They aspire to have more radio and tv shows etc.
- The BBCs values: (1) trust is foundation of the BBC, (2) audiences are at the heart of everything they do, (3) take pride in delivering quality and value for money, (4) creativity is the lifeblood of the organisation, (5) respect each other and celebrate diversity and (6) one BBC.
- The licence is the legal permission to install or use television equipment to watch programmes on TV or devices using the internet. The TV licence covers live shows, downloaded programmes and catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer.
- £2.06 of the licence fee goes towards BBC Radio.
- The BBC is regulated by Ofcom, they started regulating the BBC in 2017 and before this they regulated themselves.
BBC RADIO 1
- BBC Radio 1 breakfast show launched in September 1967
- The first presenter of the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show was Tony Blackburn.
- Radio 1 is one of the most well known BBC services and aims to connect and interest with a young audience which is different to the target audience of all other BBC services.
- Gregg James took over Nick Grimshaw in 20th August 2018
- Broadcast 6:30am-10am Monday to Thursday

- BBC Radio 1 is broadcast on FM, DAB, Freeview, Freesat, Virgin, Sky, or online via BBC Radio Player (including via the phone or tablet app) where it can be heard live or streamed for 30 days and also through social media.
- Capital Radio and Kiss FM are its biggest competitors
- Gregg James started his first ever radio show with allowing audience to request songs
- BBC iPlayer
- It show plays modern popular music and current hits
- BBC Radio 1 interacts with its listeners through BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend and this year they also worked alongside Reading Festival.
BBC RADIO 1 WITH GREGG JAMES
- Radio listeners have declined, producers had to think of new ways to interact with audiences eg youtube channels, BBC iPlayer and social media.
- A list is most popular
- B list is less popular
- C list is upcoming artists
- BBC introducing supports new and upcoming artists.
- Station ident is the stations identification, something people will recognise them by.
- RAJAR is the official body that measures radio listeners in the UK
- 5.69million listeners age 10+ on the BBC radio 1 breakfast show, a quarter million more than last year
